SanJoseCity College offers both an Associate in Arts (AA) and an Associate in Science (AS) degree in Alcohol and Drug Studies. Students planning to transfer should follow the AA degree. The San Jose City College Chemical Dependency Certificate is a certified CCAPP program and is designed to meet the California Consortium of Addiction Professionals and Programs (CCAPP) requirement of 315 hours of approved Alcohol and Drug training education; and 255 hours of Supervised Practicum. In addition the ADS program meets the requirements of the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADE) with the General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Social Programs certificate requirements.

The Community Social Services/Substance Abuse Associate in Arts (AA) Degree is designed to prepare students for employment in entry-level paraprofessional positions providing counseling, case management, crisis management, and relapse prevention services to substance abuse clients. The program also offers further training for persons already employed in the field.

‘Dual diagnosis’ is a condition where mental disorders and substance abuse problems simultaneously appear. Also referred to as ‘co-occurring disorders’ (COD), this condition can severely impact the mental health of those affected. In order to reduce and ultimately end the global burden of tobacco-caused death and disease, researchers and public health professionals need to be equipped with the necessary technical skills to support effective policy development and implementation. The overall aim of the fully online certificate program in Global Tobacco Control is to provide formal education to research scientists and public health professionals that equips them with the technical skills necessary to develop and effectively communicate the evidence that is required to support effective tobacco control policy development and implementation.
