The Sacred Art School, training area of the Foundation for Contemporary Sacred Art, provides instruction in painting, sculpture and jewelry for students wishing to pursue careers as professional artists. Our three-year courses constitute our main educational offer; in fact, they offer a solid curriculum that provides each student with all the tools to learn how to become a well-rounded artist and pursue an artistic career.

Through this Restoring Medieval and Renaissance Paintings course of study, you will have the opportunity to delve deeper into and experience the basics of the restoration and conservation of tables between the 12th and 15th centuries. Student and graduate work are directly affected by the philosophy, teaching methodology, and physical structure of the studio in which it is created. A distinguishing characteristic of The Florence Academy of Art is that we require all our students to work from life under natural north light, in the tradition of the masters of the past whom we admire: Titian, Rembrandt, Velázquez, and Sargent, to name a few. Our students do not idly copy their subjects but instead, learn to translate nature in a way that is both anatomically accurate and artistically beautiful. Long poses may last three hours a day, five days a week for four or five weeks. This gives artists time to work out problems and produce a competent drawing or painting. Natural light allows students to select a specific area of the painting to keep in sharp focus while peripheral areas remain out of focus, just as the eye sees in nature: there are no edges in natural light, but soft gradations of light to dark. A sight-size method is a helpful tool, and we apply it in the early stages of the curriculum when students are learning measurement, proportion, and shadow shape. Artists at the advanced levels are taught to apply comparative measurements when necessary.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, external examinations, case studies and continual class assessment. Progress to employment within Construction as an apprentice/trainee Painter & Decorator with progression to L2 NVQ Diploma in Painting & Decorating.

ISBA offers introductory or advanced courses in the main disciplines relating to the plastic and visual arts. They concern adults and allow to practice, under the guidance of qualified teachers, stonecutting, drawing, painting, sculpture: modelling, moulding, photography, drawing, comics, live model drawing, illustration, watercolour, performance, image creation, collages.

This qualification provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work. Students completing the course will receive the CPC30611 Certificate III in Painting and Decorating.

The Art Studio emphasis is designed to prepare students for transfer to a bachelor’s degree-granting institution to study Art.

The Visual Arts concentration provides necessary fundamental courses resulting in a quality portfolio of artwork ready for transfer.

The program of study prepares students for transfer to a four-year institution in painting illustration. The student will be able to analyze a wide range of topics and render various subjects in a variety of mediums.
