Introduction
The course is at a postgraduate level and is compulsory for third-cycle courses and study programs.
After completing the course, the doctoral students shall have the ability to summarize scientific texts that analyze the individual in welfare society from different perspectives; compare the meaning of the concept of welfare society within different political environments.
After completing the course, the doctoral students shall have the ability to apply scientific and political perspectives on welfare society and welfare production to investigate the system perspective versus the individual perspective critically.
After completing the course, the doctoral students shall have the ability to reflect on and dispute the significance of different human philosophies for a democratic and humane welfare society.
The subjects covered by the course are as follows: humanity in the welfare society as an area for research, partly from a comparative, historical perspective on the development of the welfare state and partly with a view to current demographic trends, increased inequality between groups within society, and from a welfare legislative perspective nationally and internationally; questions involving ethics and views of life-related to the individual in the welfare society; the concept of humanity and the welfare society from a comparative theoretical perspective based on the history of ideas with a view to Swedish and Nordic research; the role of welfare workers and their relationship to the recipients of welfare.
