Introduction
Are you aiming to advance or begin your career in teaching? Run in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), this innovative programme provides you with the broadest possible exposure to professional practice, experience and a variety of teaching methods, as you develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding to flourish in teaching.
You must have completed one year of the Diploma in Education & Training (DET) at Level 5, which is also offered at Barking & Dagenham College in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University.
What will I learn?
You will build on the knowledge already gained from the Diploma in Education & Training (DET), where you will have covered:
- Introduction to teaching and learning
- Planning and assessing
- Applying theory to practice
You will have looked at the core elements of teaching and learning, planning and enabling learning, theories of learning, assessment, managing behavior, and meeting individual needs.
On the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Level 6) you will study the following modules:
- Reflecting on practice
- Curriculum
- Professional practice
You will analyze what it means to support learners, explore professional issues, participate in a research activity and plan your next stage of professional development.
There is also the opportunity for English and maths teachers to complete modules in their own specialist areas.
What can I do after this course?
Upon completion of this course, you will be a fully qualified lecturer. If you wish to continue your studies you may wish to consider a Masters degree, either at Canterbury Christ Church University or another institution.
Entry requirements
You will want to teach and be passionate about the opportunities education offers.
You will need to complete an initial literacy assessment, with maths and English specialists facing further assessments. You will need a first degree if you want to undertake the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education pathway, Year 2.
You will also have:
- Effective verbal communication and strong written English, and
- A confirmed placement over two years of a minimum of 100 hours’ teaching practice (40 hours in year one, 60 hours in year two).
