Introduction
Engineering is exciting, rewarding and creative. The great thing about being an engineer is that you will always be learning.
Engineering is driving the economy. There are almost 6 million employees in UK engineering companies - almost 20% of total UK employment. The UK will need 200,000 more people with engineering skills each year.
This qualification is equivalent to the second year of a degree qualification.
Engineers build the world around us including buildings, roads, bridges, schools, and hospitals. If you enjoy solving problems and coming up with great creative solutions, watch as your work gets seen and used by millions every day. Logical thinking, an aptitude for problem solving and flexibility are just some of the attributes that make a good engineer.
What will I learn?
The Higher National Diploma in Engineering develops your studies in engineering, science, and maths. It covers both mechanical and electrical engineering and will build on the knowledge and experience you will have already gained on the Higher National Certificate (HNC).
Modules
On the HND in Engineering you will study:
- Mechanical principles
- Electronic principles
- Materials
- Fluid mechanics
- Thermodynamics
What can I do after this course?
On successfully completing the HND, you could:
- Progress to the third year of a (B.Eng) degree at university. This programme has an articulation agreement for direct progression to the level 6 (B.Eng) at the University of East London.
- Seek employment. Please talk to us about your career plans during your interview so we can support you to achieve your ambitions.
Entry requirements
You must have a BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Engineering, which you may have already gained at Barking & Dagenham College.
You can apply for the HND if you have gained your HNC at another institution. If that’s the case, we will talk to you about what units you have already studied.
