Are you interested in a career in computing?
With Canary Wharf and Tech City in east London, studying with us means you are in prime position to make the most of opportunities right on your doorstep.
Our HNC Computing programme is designed to help you develop both the technical and ‘softer’ skills that are increasingly sought by employers. The course covers digital hardware design, network engineering, coding, web development, robotics, business analysis, and database administration, as well as numerous other sought-after skills.
On completion of the HNC, you could progress to the HND, which is also offered at Barking & Dagenham College.
What will I learn?
You will learn the major specialisms in computing.
You will be taught by enthusiastic, qualified and
industry-experienced lecturers. In a typical week you will attend:
- Practical workshops and demonstrations
- Lectures, seminars, and tutorials
You may also have the chance to work on client-led briefs to gain the real work experience you'll need for your future career.

On the HNC in Computing, you will study core units and specialist units.

Specialist Units:
- Website Design & Development
- Maths for Computing
What can I do after this course?
You could progress to the HND in Computing, also offered at Barking & Dagenham College. This is another 1-year course, which also costs £5,000. You will study Advanced Programming, Forensics, Data Mining, Application Development and Games Development on the HND.
Alternatively, you could find a job in a computing or IT-related role.
Entry requirements
You must have:
- 48 new UCAS points or 120 old UCAS points (this equates to PPP on a BTEC Extended Diploma, or two A-levels at grade D), or
- A merit in a relevant National Diploma, Extended Diploma, or Access to IT.
You can still apply if you don’t have a formal qualification but can demonstrate appropriate experience. You will need to attend an interview and bring evidence of your existing qualifications.
