The executive short course is about Gender Equality and Women Empowerment. Women are still often worse off than men, and therefore including a focus on women empowerment will be instrumental to closing the gender gap. In order for gender equality to improve, women’s and men’s needs and opportunities need to be addressed not only at the community level but also system-wide. Attention to gender and women empowerment-related issues and institutionalization is therefore important. Gender Studies and Feminist Theory - A Multidisciplinary Perspective Seasonal School will introduce participants to the pivotal perspective of gender studies with a multidisciplinary critical perspective, combining different approaches in social sciences. In order to tackle the most relevant issues in contemporary gender studies and feminist theory, participants will be provided with the most relevant conceptual tools from an epistemological, political, legal and philosophical point of view as well as with a cross-cutting knowledge of the different theoretical-methodological frameworks employed in the debate.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (PGDipArts) requires two semesters of full-time study. It entails a structured Program of postgraduate coursework and, in some instances, a piece of supervised research that counts for one or two of the required papers. The normal admission requirement is a completed Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in the major of the proposed Program.

This course provides a unique and exciting opportunity for students to examine a wide range of British literature from various genres and periods through the lens of gender and sexuality. You will discuss representations of the changing roles of women in Early Modern England, from Isabella Whitney’s A Sweet Nosegay and William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost in the 16th Century to ‘breeches’ plays of the 17th Century. You will explore themes of womanhood, sexuality, and maternity in Romanticism and the Gothic through works such as Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the poems of Mary Robinson. Further areas of discussion will include censorship and (homo)sexuality, and differing constructions of masculinity in 20th Century British literature, as well as exploring queer literature in contemporary Britain, such as the works of Mary Jean Chan and Hanif Kureishi. Theoretical frameworks, including feminist literary theory and queer theory, will be examined and applied throughout the course, and lectures and supplementary resources will equip you with the historical and cultural knowledge to contextualise the texts you will study.

A Women’s Studies minor complements many different majors, such as nursing, physician assistant, social work, education, political science, and psychology. A Women’s Studies minor can help to customize the undergraduate experience, preparing students for various careers involving issues of diversity and social/political difference.

This course critically examines issues facing women in Canadian society, such as gender inequality and discrimination, gender-based violence, reproductive health and reproductive rights, the construction of motherhood and work, and other aspects of female status in patriarchy. Students will explore the work of prominent feminist scholars, the role of feminist movements in social change, and recent social research on gender, sexuality, and intersectional theories of oppression. In this introductory course, we will also discuss gender-non-conforming identities, masculinity, and men’s issues.

The program is dedicated to exploring gender as a fundamental category of analysis within the realms of social sciences and humanities, serving as a focal point in both national and international discourse. Its objective is to familiarize students with key topics and methodologies in gender and women’s studies, empowering them with critical analytical abilities to dissect gender dynamics across various domains including everyday life, science, politics, economy, culture, and society.

Despite compelling evidence that more diversity in senior management ranks increases organisational performance, the proportion of women in key leadership roles remains low in most organisations. Women face a unique set of challenges when progressing into senior leadership positions, including unconscious bias, a scarcity of role models, and a peer group that continually shrinks the more senior they become.
