The Land and Water Resources (LWR) Diploma program prepares students to effectively conserve and repair disturbed land and riparian zones, as well as monitor water quality and quantity. The main focus of the program is a reclamation of sites disturbed by industrial development and activity, and the regulations of reclaiming such sites as per the BC Oil and Gas Commission and relevant government bodies.

Scientists estimate that one million of the world’s estimated 8 million species of plants and animals are on the verge of extinction, and this could curtail our ability to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

Environmental Technician students are trained as entry-level practitioners in the use of environmental sampling, monitoring and testing equipment and information technology tools and will be familiar with standard operating procedures for conducting environmental projects. Students are provided with applied knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislative requirements, environmental management systems, and the basic principles of ecosystem-based management for sustainability.

In WAT-CHANGE - Water-Related Ecosystem Services for Adapting Societies to Climate Change Seasonal School aims at introducing the participants to the new growing area of solutions provided by water-related ecosystem services. In particular, we will deal with nature-based solutions for water supply, treatment of polluted water, and flood risk mitigation such as managed aquifer recharge, river restoration, constructed wetlands, sustainable drainage systems, and remediation of contaminated sites using phytoremediation techniques.

The existing relationship of Urban Green Solutions in training and employment becomes evident when addressing the development of vocational maturity, as well as its various components: skills to choose, obtain and maintain employment, through learning and development of transversal skills, as well as the professional development of university students and graduates through specific vocational training, developed from a comprehensive perspective that extends to their follow-up in job insertion, as it is a fundamental factor that improves the chances of academic and employment success of people with disabilities.

The HVACR training certification program is composed of both classroom lectures and hands-on learning. Our school’s curriculum is designed to provide students with a foundation in HVACR, while graduates of this certification program will gain advanced skills once employed in the field.

Careers such as Natural Resource Managers, Water Resource Specialists, and Environmental Compliance Officers are possibilities with this pathway. This is an Associates of Science Degree that is intended for transfer. Graduates who do not plan to transfer may pursue employment.

Understanding the processes determining oil trajectory and fate, and learning oil spill simulation tools, allows environmental professionals to design better response plans, and help with mitigating future events.
