This Foundation Degree aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the wide and varied social, political, and economic environments that community and public services operate within. You will have the opportunity to listen to, and network with, serving public service practitioners and members of other community and public service organizations through visits, volunteering, guest lectures, and work-based delivery.

A Diploma in Social Service Worker assists individuals who are experiencing social and personal challenges. Acknowledging the root causes may be societal in nature, resulting from the social determinants of health such as marginalization, oppression, stigma, colonization, and intergenerational trauma. Having acquired knowledge of human behaviour and development, the worker, through supportive counselling helps empower service recipients to make positive change that affects individuals, groups, and communities.

Arts Education and Community Engagement is a two-semester Graduate Certificate program designed to ladder students into careers in arts education and community arts. Students will learn how to design arts educational programming that is pedagogically sound and that meets the needs of diverse communities. Students will apply best practices of community arts work and will be trained to facilitate arts-based social justice initiatives. Students will also learn about a variety of careers in arts education and community development engagement through research, mentorship, and field placements. Graduates of this program will be equipped to manage a professional career in arts and learning and to incorporate community-engaged arts work into their existing creative practice.

The Community Social Services/Substance Abuse Associate in Arts (AA) Degree is designed to prepare students for employment in entry-level paraprofessional positions providing counseling, case management, crisis management, and relapse prevention services to substance abuse clients. The program also offers further training for persons already employed in the field.

Community Worker is a dynamic program designed to prepare you to work with individuals, organizations, and communities. You'll learn to work across a range of issues including social justice, poverty, housing, violence, food justice, immigration, and settlement in ways that are responsive to their multiple and changing needs. There is also an accelerated program stream available that is suitable for students with an existing diploma or degree.

The three-year Child and Youth Care Ontario College Advanced Diploma program prepares you to support vulnerable children, youth, and families with complex needs. Learn a wide range of prevention and intervention strategies that foster positive change and healthy development. Assess the strengths and needs of young people and families and develop interventions to meet those needs. Apply the principles of relational practice, life space engagement, and anti-oppressive practice while working with children, youth, and families. In classes, you learn practical and theoretical concepts and then apply them in field placements.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Community Welfare is an excellent place to start.This is a pathway to further study at Southern Cross University in Community Welfare or Social Work.It aims to prepare you for Diploma or Bachelor-level studies, combining academic skills units with introductory units to develop your foundational knowledge in community welfare and social work.

Community-based development is rooted in the idea that individuals and groups are best suited to identifying and addressing social problems in their own communities. Community development enhances local ownership, sustainability, and effectiveness by localising problems and solutions in geographically, politically, and socially defined areas. This course will provide an overview of community-based development, frameworks for development, and tools and resources that can be utilised by non-profits and development workers in international contexts.

The Community Services Worker Gerontology Program prepares graduates to work with programs in support of older adults. Students learn to be valuable members of care service teams and develop effective working relationships towards quality client care. They administer and implement a variety of social assistance programs and community services, and assist clients to deal with personal and social problems. With the aging population, there is a great need in Ontario for such workers.

This qualification reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in managing, coordinating and/or delivering person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities.

Case management is a collaborative process designed to help an individual client achieve a specified wellness and re-enablement goal through supported care.

Certificate IV in Mental Health reflects the role of workers who provide self-directed recovery-oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability.
