The Associate in Science in Chemistry for Transfer Degree (AS-T in Chemistry) introduces the concepts and principles upon which chemical knowledge is based, including chemical structures and nomenclature, stoichiometry and solving chemical equations, the thermodynamics of chemical reactions, and theories of chemical bonding. Students will develop skills for critical/analytical thinking, perceptive reading/observation, and interpretation. The Associate in Science in Chemistry to Transfer degree provides students with a core curriculum that will prepare them with the knowledge and skills required to earn a baccalaureate degree in chemistry.

This degree is intended to prepare students to transfer to Washington’s public four-year colleges and universities and many private colleges with junior standing and the majority of the prerequisites for selected science, mathematics, and engineering majors completed. This degree partially fulfills the general education requirements as explained in the Associate of Arts, Direct Transfer Agreement, AA-DTA degree. This degree does not guarantee admission into the major.

This course offers an introduction to organic chemistry - the molecular 'language' that underpins biology, pharmacology, medicine, diagnostics, environmental and materials sciences. Students will gain insight into the chemical reactivity of carbon-based molecules by exploring structural and bonding models, chemical thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics.

The study of chemistry provides insights that are central to biology, geology, materials science, medicine, environmental science, and many branches of engineering. The Associate of Science (Track 1) degree is directly transferable to most Washington baccalaureate institutions (four-year colleges and universities). Students who transfer will be granted junior standing upon transfer.

The central purpose of the Diploma (Extended) in Analytical Chemistry is to develop graduates who can demonstrate focused knowledge and skills in Analytical Chemistry. The program, therefore, focuses centrally on equipping students with an in-depth and specialized knowledge of the general principles and practical skills applicable to the Analytical Chemistry industry.

The Geochemistry Minor is for science students (e.g. chemistry majors) with an interest in the chemical aspects of Earth science.
