The Multimedia Arts curriculum develops students’ aesthetic and technical competence by providing training in state-of-the-art software, production processes, theory, and concepts. The program prepares students for employment in applied media industries or transfers to media programs at 4-year institutions. Our courses give students a core background in art, design, and technical skills in media development, production, and distribution.

This Certificate of Achievement in Journalism offers a fast-track introduction to the American news media and the expanding opportunities in web publication. Students immediately become media practitioners as they develop work for The Channels, SBCC’s award-winning college news publication.

The Digital Studies Certificate helps students learn about digital culture and develop their skills in producing digital media content. Each student that completes the Digital Studies Certificate will be able to better recognize what digital communication tools can do and how to use them. Digital cultures are about relationships between people and the digital tools they use. To better understand those relationships, Digital Studies students think about two big questions

The Certificate in Digital Media Analytics is a 12-credit program that equips students with data analysis skills and a theoretical understanding of how digital media function in contemporary society, particularly within journalism, strategic communication, and mass media contexts. This certificate program prepares students for successful careers in data journalism, data-driven strategic communication (e.g., advertising, public relations, communication campaigns), and data-informed sports communication. The program serves both Journalism majors (as an elective sequence) and non-Journalism majors (offering training and credentials in digital media analytics to facilitate entry into media-related industries).

Animation, Visual Effect and Interactive Content (AVEI), is an accelerated technical certificate for commercial artists in 3D Animation and Visual Effects. Our students find career paths in Digital Content for Film, Television, Video Game Content and more. AVEI is a one-year, full-time program that teaches students to create advanced content, including 3D and 2D graphics. Industry-veteran instructors teach 3D Modeling, Texturing, Animation, Motion Capture, Digital Cinema, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Content, Digital Compositing, and Editing on the same technology used by major studios.

Given today’s dynamic economic and industrial needs, organizations are required to embrace change from within by promoting continuous education for professionals who want to improve or learn new skills. Now more than ever, hard skills such as understanding and managing: artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, DevOps, blockchain, are essential as they’re combined with soft skills such as: leadership, innovation, and cultural awareness.

The Digital Media program has been revised to meet the current needs of professionals working in the fields of digital imaging, interactive design, and motion media design.
