For one month each year, 15 selected participants co-direct a series of 3-5 minute documentaries with OTOXO Productions. These shorts are distributed to festivals & media outlets around the world and streamed on the OTOXO platform. For these reasons alone we demand the highest quality of work from our participants and provide them with the highest quality of training to ensure it.

This unique program develops skills in both multimedia creation and business. In multimedia, you will produce interactive multiplatform content including image, audio, video or 3D animation. In business administration, you will gain essential knowledge in management, marketing and accounting.

The Visual Communications Department emphasizes a variety of creative and technical skills in preparing students for a career in advertising, publishing, and public relations. The 2-year Associate of Technical Arts (ATA) degree also includes fundamental business practices which empower students to work in the gig economy as a freelancer and/or as part of a company. The arts and culture industry is constantly growing and looking for folks with an eye for detail, a willingness to explore the possibilities, and a passion for ingenuity.

Students aspiring to careers as artists and working professionals in the world of media arts become fluent in multiple forms of visual media in order to effectively tell a story – whether it is one of personal expression, documentary journalism, social advocacy, or fictional narrative.

Graphic Communications encompasses the techniques of setting a mood and conveying information to the viewer using a variety of printing techniques, multimedia, and the Internet. Some degree programs and certificates include classes offered by other departments at Palomar College including Art, Business, Computer Science, Library Technology, and Media Studies to provide the student a broad-based, interdisciplinary range of skills. There are three areas of specialization available to the student: Imaging and Publishing More than ink on paper, print media requires effective and efficient layout techniques and skillful shop and project management to provide a cost-effective product. Web Design The explosive growth of the Internet continues with rapid developments in the World Wide Web. The GC department provides in-depth instruction in leading-edge software tools and techniques including site layout, database design, copyright and accessibility considerations, and portfolio development. Motion Graphics, Multimedia and Digital Video The field of motion graphics is becoming more important in advertising, visual effects, online marketing, educational short subjects, and HD video production.

The visual communication-graphic design degree prepares students for a variety of positions utilizing computer graphics and imaging skills. Graduates are prepared to produce public relations materials, including print, video, and electronic media. Graduates may transfer as juniors to complete a bachelor’s degree in visual communications.

This course is designed to develop a foundation in the knowledge and skills required for progression to more advanced levels of study in photography.

The Cinema and Audiovisual Trades Training extends over two years with a common core in the first year and two courses in the second year, namely the directorial assistant and the production assistant.

Giving a successful presentation can be one of the hardest parts of many people’s jobs. This course covers the common mistakes people make when preparing for and giving a presentation so you can avoid these, as well as going over good practice and providing some practical advice that you can put to good use the next time you have a big presentation to make.

Students will learn the basics of visual arts and various artistic techniques while developing their creativity. They will also build their portfolio and undergo a year-long personal project.

The new Diploma in Visual Communication gives students the theoretical and practical design knowledge and skills they need to become professionals in the graphic design industry.
