Berkeley City College’s A.A. degree in Digital Imaging prepares students for entry-level jobs in the photography, graphic design, illustration, imaging, and data visualization fields and provides upgraded skills for those already employed in multimedia and data design fields. Courses in this area may focus on the knowledge and skills needed to communicate effectively in oral, written, or visual forms; on the study of language and culture; and/or on a critical understanding of the structures and patterns of different kinds of communication as they affect individuals and society. Studies in Communication, Media, and Languages are designed for students interested in pursuing further studies in English, Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Communication Studies, and World Languages at four-year institutions. It may be useful for students interested in pursuing careers in communications, graphic design, journalism, law, marketing, public relations, radio and television, translating, and writing, among others.

The Communication Arts major at Delaware County Community College blends the theoretical with the practical by providing students with a foundation in the study of human communication that prepares them to continue academic study in the field. The Theatre option is designed for students who wish to continue academic study in theatre, acting (for stage or film), directing, and/or technical theatre (lights, sound, set construction, etc.).

TCC's program provides an introduction to the concepts, theories, terminology, and current topics in the versatile and popular field of Communications. The Communication Studies (CMST) emphasis of the Associate of Arts (DTA) degree prepares students for the challenges of a world that are shaped by communication that is rich with intercultural exchange. Students specializing in Communication Studies examine and produce work in oral, written, media, and visual communication and practice critical skills in groups and one-on-one settings.

The Associate in Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer (AA-T in Communication Studies) provides a clear pathway to a CSU institution for students who plan to transfer and complete a CSU major or baccalaureate degree in Communication Studies. Students gain self-awareness and the ability to build bridges with diverse audiences. The broad-based transfer curriculum includes interpersonal, intercultural, and group communication, public communication, argumentation and debate, and speech team activities.

The Communication Studies program prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university to obtain a degree in Communication or a related Social Science field. The courses in the program also improve job attainment and performance skills, providing students with the training necessary for public speaking, customer service, conflict resolution, and interviewing. Students who complete the Associate in Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer will learn and practice cultural awareness, situation analyses, and goal-oriented solutions to practical problems, giving them valuable assets in their future relationships and workplaces. Lastly, this course of study improves students’ logic and reasoning skills, thus providing the foundation for understanding math and science, the world around them, and the skills and insights necessary to think through ethical issues and achieve their goals.

The Media Arts program is a unique, interdisciplinary approach to the converging fields of journalism, communication, and new media technology. It responds to the need for people skilled in effective communications in all levels of society including industry, education, art and music, and the public arena.

The Media Communications Department offers courses in video production, broadcasting, and post-production for digital video, film, radio, broadcast arts, and AV Installation Technologists. There are four major degrees/certificates which offer entry into the industry or transfer to a four-year institution. The courses cover the gamut of authoring, producing, editing, and distributing creative content for continually evolving communications technologies.

The Film and Media Studies major, leading to an AA degree, focuses on historical and critical studies in the field of film and related media. The program is designed to introduce students to film literature and criticism and to provide them with a basic knowledge of motion picture history, including the work of major American and international directors. Electives enhance this course of study by exposing students to the principles, technology and techniques of motion picture production. The goal of the program is to encourage a critical attitude toward moving image media through theoretical studies, critical analysis and historical and cross-cultural examination.

The Mass Communication Department serves the general education student and the aspiring communications professional. The department's popular Mass Communications 101 course is tailored to general education students and media majors wishing an overview of the mass media. The department's Mass Communications 120 course is an introduction to the field of public relations.

Communication Studies provides learning opportunities to speak well, listen with understanding, and engage in positive action. Communication Studies will be valuable for a career in business, public relations, law, education, the social sciences, and drama.
