The Diploma of Arts program offers students a pathway into diverse specialist and interdisciplinary thematic areas including communications, text and digital media; society and culture; digital and global humanities; Indigenous governance and policy; contemporary Indigenous Australian languages and linguistics; digital and creative arts; music, production and performance; and architectural design. As a student, your journey through this program will also develop core communication, critical and creative thinking skills to prepare you to participate in a multi-disciplinary and global workforce.

The honors minor program in Art Theory and Criticism merges diverse aspects of visual studies into a unique curriculum, providing the students with an understanding of the major intellectual trends and debates in the visual arts, including art history, theory, criticism, and museum studies. This comprises a study of the new philosophies of vision that have emerged over the past decades and affected our ways of seeing and the new technologies and media that have redefined lifestyles and social relations.

The Smith art department embraces the history of art, studio practice and architecture. We are committed to cultivating visual literacy and understanding artistic production in different cultures throughout time and our own media-saturated presence in all three areas.

The Art Department here at Brampton College promotes the development and practice of skills and develops students’ visual awareness and conceptual thinking, in a world that is increasingly dominated by visual information. The study of art & art history is central to a liberal arts education, especially in a world increasingly shaped by images and seemingly endless visual information.

The Art School has three dedicated teaching staff with a range of skills and specialisms and occupies three studios in the newly refurbished Castle Building. Two of these spaces are dedicated to lowering school groups, and the third is exclusively for sixth formers. There is also a dedicated communal study area where students can enjoy full access to high specification laptops, the full Adobe Creative suite and an excellent library of books and subject-specific journals.

The Associate in Arts College Transfer Pathway provides up to 32-33 credit hours leading to the Associate in Arts and is designed for high school juniors and seniors who wish to begin study toward the Associate in Arts degree and a baccalaureate degree in a non-STEM major (something other than science, technology, engineering, or mathematics).

The Art Studio emphasis is designed to prepare students for transfer to a bachelor’s degree-granting institution to study Art.

This interdisciplinary arts course allows students to explore walking as a medium for creativity and integration with the arts.
