Healthcare professions are one of the fastest growing career fields in the country. The Department of Medical Assisting offers three program options, one degree, and two certificate programs.
- Medical Assistant Degree
- Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate Program
- Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program
These three medical assistant programs prepare students for entry-level positions in physician’s offices and other medical facilities. These courses help develop the skills necessary to excel in the healthcare industry.
Medical assistant students will learn proper telephone etiquette, how to greet patients, proper charting and filing techniques, insurance processing, word processing, email, appointment scheduling and handling patients from the check-in process through the exam. Medical assistant students will be prepared to work in hospitals, physician’s offices, ambulatory service facilities and clinics.
Employment for medical assistants is expected to grow 23% from 2014 to 2024 as reported by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.† This is much faster than the average growth rate for other occupations. Medical assistants continue to be in high demand as they become more relied upon as an important asset to the medical team and as physicians’ practices switch to electronic records. Here, in the Capital Region, there are many potential opportunities for career placement.
