This one-year foundation programme provides students a solid platform for further studies at the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Students of this programme not only acquire solid basics in the core of Science subjects but are empowered by other relevant skills such as critical thinking, public speaking and presentation techniques. On top of that, students will be given plenty of hands-on experience, essential for any student who wishes to excel in the science fields.

Laboratory Facilities Students will have access to the well-equipped science laboratories at Centre for Foundation Studies in Science (PASUM), the University of Malaya to conduct their practical class.

Entry Requirements

Malaysian Students:

  • To pursue a degree course in medicine:
    • SPM / SPMV / O-Level : Pass with at least grade B in five (5) subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and another subject as well as credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
    • UEC: Pass with at least Grade B4 in three (3) subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics or Additional Mathematics.
  • To pursue a degree course in pharmacy:
    • SPM / SPMV / O-Level: Pass with at least grade B in five (5) subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and another subject as well as credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
    • UEC: Pass with at least Grade B4 in three (3) subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics or Additional Mathematics.
  • To pursue a degree course in dentistry:
    • SPM / SPMV / O-Level : Pass with at least grade B in five (5) subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and another subject as well as credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
    • UEC: Pass with at least Grade B4 in three (4) subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics or Additional Mathematics.
  • To pursue a degree course in other science areas:
    • SPM / SPMV / O-Level : Pass with credits in five (5) subjects including two (2) science subjects and Mathematics and passes in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
    • UEC: Pass with at least Grade B4 in three (3) subjects including two (2) science subjects and Mathematics.
  • To pursue a degree course in engineering:
    • SPM / SPMV / O-Level : Pass with credits in five (5) subjects including Mathematics and one (1) Physical Science subject.
    • UEC: Pass with at least Grade B4 in three (3) subjects including Mathematics and one (1) Physical Science subject.
  • To pursue a degree course in the built environment:
    • SPM / SPMV / O-Level : Pass with credits in five (5) subjects including Mathematics.
    • UEC: Pass with at least Grade B4 in three (3) subjects including Mathematics.
  • To pursue a degree course in allied health science:
    • SPM / SPMV / O-Level : Pass with credits in five (5) subjects including any three (3) subjects: Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or English.
    • UEC: Pass with at least Grade B4 in any of these three (3) subjects: Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or English.

+Other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government or University Senate +Students are required to sit for IUMW English Placement Test English Requirements for International Students:

  • Pass IUMW Intensive English, or IELTS with minimum Band 5, or TOEFL with a minimum score of 500; OR
  • Students are required to sit for IUMW English Placement Test
