Knowledge of Basic Electricity & Electronics and the fundamentals of refrigeration technology are prerequisite for the Commercial Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Program. The majority of students who enroll in the Major Appliances Program and Domestic Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Programs where they learn basic electricity and basic refrigeration, generally also enroll for this program. Students learn to work on central air conditioning systems, heat pumps, roof top A/C systems, walk-in and reach-in refrigerators and freezers, ice machines and other commercial refrigeration equipment.

HVACR training includes 100 hours of Massachusetts Refrigeration Code and 100 hours of Mass. Electrical code, each counting toward the qualifications for a refrigeration license in Massachusetts.... [-]

Clothes Washers, Dish Washers, Clothes Dryers, Refrigerators, Microwave Ovens, Stoves and disposals are some of the more common ones. They break down occasionally and need to be repaired. Is there anyone you know who doesn’t own some kind of Major Appliance?

Major Appliance technicians need to have the skills necessary to successfully service these machines, such as learning to diagnose and troubleshoot. Students enrolled in The Major Appliance Program at Bay State are learning these skills by working on the actual pieces of equipment in the lab workshops. For almost 30 years, Bay State’s “Hands-On” training has worked for thousands of students.
