Introduction
Learn the basic skills for working with new and scrap metals whilst exploring sculptural or applied ideas. Welding, gas cutting, grinding, and safe workshop practise are covered. Work on personal or tutor-led projects. It is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear. These courses are technician supported. Basic materials included but extra charge for materials used over and above the allocated material course fee.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Beginners will be inducted into and practice various welding techniques, including Gas and electric processes including gas cutting, metal forming, shaping, and grinding.
Returning/Ongoing Students will continue ongoing personal projects, improve skills, and research new techniques and processes.
All students: Learn and practice how to produce constructed metal objects to a satisfactory standard.
All students: Understand and practise good health and safety practice standards concerning yourself and others in the studio.
All students: Learn and practice how to develop research ideas imaginatively and share best practices through other students' work.
All students: Learn how these processes can be applied to sculpture and design and the wider context of these processes.
Working on individual project work in metal with Step by step instruction, demonstrations, and observation. Individual tuition and question and answer. Group discussion and feedback. Photographic record of work in progress. Individual learning goals will be negotiated with the tutor.
