Introduction
The degree program in Paraprofessional Education—developed in cooperation with other community and technical colleges in West Virginia—is designed to meet the needs of public school aides who wish to upgrade skill levels or seek permanent paraprofessional certification (as defined in WV Code 126-136-25). Paraprofessionals serve in a support capacity, including but not limited to facilitating the educational instruction and direct or indirect supervision of students under a classroom teacher's direction. They provide instructional and clerical support for teachers in elementary, middle, and high school settings. The degree program has two options: 1) Workforce Program, allowing the student to seek immediate employment upon degree completion, or 2) Transfer Program, allowing them to transfer into a four-year teacher education program.
